New hotel rating in France in 2009: France to finally get five-star hotel rating
France's top hotels, whose highest category is currently limited to four-star luxury, can next month apply for the coveted five-star rating, officials said in December 2008. "The categories haven't changed in 22 years,"
Tourism Minister Herve Novelli told reporters. "Hotel classification in the world's top tourist destination can no longer suffer from the lack of comparison with its main competitors."
The future classification will go from one star to five star, with the zero star category being eliminated. The government is also considering a five-star premium rating for some of the country's internationally renowned luxury hotels in Paris or the French Riviera, said the minister.
