Typical old-fashioned Brasserie with one of the best summer views in Paris from its terrace which is invariably packed. Brasserie de l’Ile St-Louis is located behind Notre-Dame de Paris.
Stuffed game and nicotine-stained walls make for a convivial Parisian experience, as does the slightly gruff waiter. Nothing here is gastronomically exciting - a well dressed frisée aux lardons, a slab of fairly ordinary terrine, a greasy slice of foie de veau prepared à l’anglaise with a rasher of bacon, a more successful pan of warming tripes - and a dash more sophistication in the kitchen would transform this delightful place into something more exceptional.

glad to see you damning this great old brasserie with faint praise - we don't have to wait as long for a table. If you do go back have tarte a l'oignon and choucroute and forget about sophistication in the kitchen.
